21 March: International day of forests - News from SGPB's "Plant a tree" program
Sunday 21 March, the first day of spring, also marks International Forest Day. The theme chosen for 2021 is "Forest restoration, a path to recovery and well-being". It echoes the programme launched by Societe Generale Private Banking in 2020.
A look back at the genesis of "Plant a Tree"
Since 2018, Societe Generale Private Banking has been implementing a positive impact and sustainable structured products program with a charitable dimension. The latter provides that, for each subscription, Societe Generale undertakes to make a donation to public interest partners, associations or foundations. For products dedicated to Societe Generale Private Banking clients, we have chosen charitable partners on five major social themes: humanitarian emergencies, poor housing, care for mentally handicapped adults, care for abused children and the fight against cancer. To give an environmental component to this positive impact program, in 2020, we launched the "Plant a Tree" initiative. Thus, for each subscription to a structured product, Societe Generale Private Banking undertakes to plant a tree for every EUR 10,000 invested. To create "Plant a Tree", we worked with our partner My Tree on the type of planting we could support and selected programmes to restore the French forest, an approach in line with the theme of this year's International day of forests.
43,000 trees planted between 2020 and 2021
This year, we are continuing this initiative. In total, we will have contributed to the planting of approximately 43,000 trees between 2020 and 2021 in the state forests of Secondigny in New Aquitaine, Brotonne and Eawy in Normandy, and Chantilly and Montmorency in the Ile de France region.
Biological diversity, improved water quality, oxygen production, air purification... This day dedicated to forests is also an opportunity to look back on all the benefits that can be derived from restored forests.
