Asset Management in an international context - Expert Views

Asset management in an international context - Expert Views

Our "Expert Views" video on asset management in an international context by our expert Alexandre Cegarra, Managing Director, CEO - Societe Generale Private Wealth Management.

"Asset management", meaning is meant financial asset management, is an activity that consists for an asset manager in managing the portfolio entrusted by its clients. It includes not only advisory activities, but also investment decisions based on performance objectives, risk tolerance and financial situation. Asset management is aimed at private and institutional investors who invest their savings or cash in listed (stocks and bonds) and unlisted (hedge funds, private equity, real estate) asset classes. It is also referred to as "portfolio management ». Several types of asset management exist in legal terms: delegated investment management: the investor delegates the management of his portfolio to the asset manager. Investment Advisory: The manager provides the investor with the expertise he needs to make the best investment decisions, while leaving him in control of his portfolio, the investor being thefinal decision maker.

Management solutions for international clients

Portfolio management dedicated to international clients must adopt a global approach to investments. From the construction of the strategic asset allocation to the selection of appropriate instruments, everything must be done to best integrate the client's wealth situation. In this respect, Luxembourg seems to be doing well by providing a demanding clientele with recognised experts in all asset classes and geographical areas with multicultural profiles, while offering adapted supports, ranging from simple securities accounts to life insurance supports or even a dedicated investment fund. The fund industry is particularly active in Luxembourg, which is today the leading European place for the structuring and domiciliation of investment funds. The industry includes traditional UCITS funds accessible to all types of investors, as well as Specialised Investment Funds (SIFs) and Reserved Alternative Investment Funds (RAIFs) dedicated to sophisticated investors and institutional or professional investors. This vehicle format has also been favored by large families as a tool for structuring their investments.
