Established in 2008 as Kleinwort Hambros' first venture in Scotland, the Edinburgh office services clients throughout Scotland, and has grown a reputation as a trusted adviser to individuals, family groups, charities and trusts.
The Edinburgh office is fronted by Chris Thomson, Senior Private Banker; James Burley, Private Banker; Gareth Welshman, Private Banker and Harry Gobourn, Assistant Private Banker.
Chris Thomson joined the bank in 2008. Prior to this, Chris spent twelve years in investment banking split between New York and London before moving back Edinburgh in 2004. He has since been working in private banking where he now helps a number of successful individuals, trusts and charities to fulfil their financial aspirations. Chris is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and holds the highest level of Private Client Investment Advice and Management qualification. in 2014 he attained the Chartered Wealth Manager designation.
James Burley began his career in finance after graduating from Edinburgh University with a degree in Business Studies. He gained private client experience as an analyst before joining SGPB Hambros in 2008, initially based in our London office. James is a member of the CISI and holds the highest level of Private Client Investment Advice and management qualification. In 2014 he attained the Chartered Wealth Manager designation and joined the Chartered Insurance Institute. James has a particular interest in corporate finance and has experience in advising clients shortly before or after a business sale.
Gareth Welshman joined the team in 2015. He started his financial career in 2001 after graduating from Edinburgh University. He held a number of branch management positions before moving into private banking in 2007, becoming an Associate Director in 2008. Over the years, Gareth has assisted clients with complex financial requirements. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland. He passed the Private Client Investment Advice and Management qualification in 2014 and attained the Chartered Wealth Manager designation in 2015.
